Ascension Funeral HomeAnn Welsh Merrill, 87, passed peacefully at her home in Central on November 11, 2025, after a battle with cancer. A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, Ann lived a life defined by family, generosity, faith, servitude and an open heart.
Born to EJ and Margie Welsh, Ann grew up surrounded by family and love. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Arlan Welsh and Charles Welsh; her grandson, Hunter Merrill; and her niece, April Welsh Aucoin. Though she endured loss, Ann’s spirit always remained strong in gratitude and kindness.
Ann was the proud mother of Lisa Coarsey(Jim), Jim Merrill(Debbi), and Donna Lee. She adored her grandchildren; Beau Coarsey(Meredith), Caleb Coarsey(Celeste), Katie Trespalacios(Chad), Jesse Lee, Travis Merrill, Anthony Lee, and Heather Merrill; Ann found immense joy in her great-grandchildren: Presley Coarsey, Bradlee Coarsey, Trace Coarsey, Addie Coarsey, Bryson Trespalacios, and Kapri Trespalacios. Each one was a treasure to her; each one knew her as their biggest supporter.
Ann loved to cook, to travel, and to serve others. Her faith was central in her life, and she devoted countless hours that brought her much joy to her church family of many years at Blackwater United Methodist Church and to the Lagniappe Country Walk to Emmaus community. Ann’s faith in God, warmth, her gentle strength, and her willingness to step forward with a servant’s heart touched every life she encountered.
To her children, she was the best mom; to her grandchildren, the best Mawmaw; to all who knew her, the truest friend. Her legacy is one of kindness, devotion, love and a sense of humor that will continue to ripple through generations.
Services will be held on November 28, 2025, at Blackwater United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m.
Ann will be deeply missed, but her spirit, her smile, and her grace will live on in all who were blessed to know her. The family would like to thank Clarity Hospice, specifically Nurse Nina, Nurse Kay and CNA Lachonda. In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to donate to Blackwater United Methodist church to be directed to her favorite church funds.
