Ann Mintz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Phoenix Funeral Services, Inc - Conyers on Dec. 17, 2024.
In Loving Memory of Ann Marchetti Mintz September 4, 1954 – December 14, 2024 Ann Marchetti Mintz, dearly beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and great aunt, passed away on the evening of December 14, 2024, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Her death leaves a profound void in the hearts of the family and friends who cherished her. Born in New York, NY, Ann grew up in Mineola on Long Island. After graduating from Mineola High School in 1972, she earned her undergraduate degree in Sociology from the State University of New York at Stony Book in 1977, followed by a Master's in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University in 1982. Over her dynamic career, Ann held various public policy roles, including working at the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG), the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power & Potential (GCAPP), and serving for over a decade as the Director of Public Policy at United Way Atlanta. In 2000, Ann met her husband, Eric Mintz, online in the Atlanta Journal Constitution personals section-her playful nickname for it was "the Atlanta Journal Constipation." Their connection was instant, and after their first email, they met in person just a week later. Although it took Ann 45 minutes to come downstairs to greet Eric due to her nervousness-constantly redoing her makeup- their bond was instant and undeniable. Their first evening together was punctuated with humor when Ann's three cats welcomed Eric, one of whom, "The Puckster," playfully nipped him on the head. That was Ann's sign that Eric was "OK." Travel was one of Ann's greatest passions. She had explored Europe as a young woman and even taught herself Italian so that she could connect with her distant relatives while visiting Italy. After marrying Eric, they traveled together to Mexico and France, and in recent years, made memorable trips to Spain, Portugal, and just last September, London. It was just after this last journey that Ann's health took a dire turn. A few weeks after their return, she was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer. Eric, who devotedly became her caregiver, faced the heart-wrenching challenge of watching his beloved Ann succumb to this illness. Ann is survived by her husband Eric Mintz, her mother Fannie Marchetti, her brother Paul Marchetti and his husband Matt Motley, and a large and loving extended family including cousins, five nieces and nephews, twelve grandnieces and nephews, and three great grandnieces and nephews. Though her presence will be deeply missed, Ann's spirit and the love she fostered will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
