Ann Maire Mitchell age 60 began her earthly journey on December 23, 1963. After more than a decade long battle with cancer, that part of her journey came to a close on August 4, 2024 when she relocated to her Heavenly Home. Raised mostly in Lafayette, LA Ann made her home in Pflugerville, TX with her loving husband of 25 years. First meeting at a New Year's Eve party, they developed a friendship that turned into a loving relationship and were married on September 5th of 1998. Together, with God's help, they developed and grew in their faith and commitment to God and to one another, finding ways to serve God and those God chose to put in their path.
Ann found much joy in her life through her many friendships and her hobbies (weaving, reading, gardening, writing poetry, and cooking), many of which she found much more time for following her retirement from the State of Texas in 2018. She was sustained throughout her life by God and her strong faith in His loving presence in all situations, and was enriched by each faith community she participated in through out her life.
Ann was preceded in death and will be met on the next leg of her journey by her mother: Barbara Ann Daigle Watkins, three brothers: Troy Milton, Todd Martin, and Thomas Mitchell Watkins. Her paternal grandparents: Woody & Josephine Watkins of Lafayette, LA, her loving in-laws: Paul and Anna Beth Mitchell of Waco, TX and her beloved pets Tibete, Oscar, and Jax.
Ann is survived by her loved and loving husband Mark and their dog Buddy, her loving and always there for her Aunt & Uncle, Terry & Suzy Watkins of Conyers GA; Troy's children that she always saw as hers too: nephew Chris Watkins and family of Cypress Texas and niece Ana Watkins and family of Lafayette LA; Tom's son Heath and family of Dover, TN and his stepdaughter Tabitha Dautreul of Lafayette LA and her dear cousin who always seemed more like a nephew, Jamie Watkins and family of Gastonia NC. Ann enjoyed the gift of being a part of Mark's family too and is survived by sister-in-law, Paula Marks (Alan) of Guilford VT and brother-in-law Phillip (Pamela) of Clifton, TX along with each of their families, adding to the wonderful circle of nieces and nephews. She is survived by a host of friends/"family by choice" whose relationships she has treasured over the years, and by her father Joseph Watkins (Pat) of Slidell, LA.
Ann has given thanks through her life for the care and love she and her brothers received at Palmer Home for Children. She and Mark also extend their gratitude to the oncologists (Chris Rudd, Rakesh Surapaneni, Danijela Levacic, and Mehul Patel) and staff at Baylor Scott and White in Round Rock, TX for their compassionate and informed care over the years. They would also like to thank the many family, friends, and neighbors who provided prayers alongside loving acts of kindness that supported them during Ann's journey through cancer. Thanks are also offered to Dan Naidu (RNCM) and all the staff at Three Oaks Hospice for their care.
If you would like to make a donation in honor of Ann Maire please consider the following organizations: Palmer Home For Children, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are pending
I was invited here for a visit, a tour
Allowed to use what I might need
And sometimes given even more
Never knowing where each day might lead
I may stay around quite a while
Or I may leave early, you know
But I've done this trip in style
And I don't regret having to go
This is not where I was meant to stay
All I was doing was passing through
And getting closer each subsequent day
To a home both bright and new
I tried to do a little good along the way
And regret any harm that I have done
Accepting and striving come what may
Safely held by God the Father, Spirit, and Son
Remember our separation will be but a blink
Our journeys enriched by the connections we share
In an endless chain, each soul another link
To a new world waiting just over there.

I was blessed to know her, albeit just for the last 4 years we were neighbors. She was always full of smiles, a friendly hello, lots of plant cuttings and frequently shared the bounty of her backyard garden.
