Anna Mae Annese, 89, of Corunna, passed away at her home on Thursday, August 15, 2024. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owosso; Fr. Mike Kuchar will celebrate. Burial will take place at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, with a luncheon to be held immediately after at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Annese family will receive friends at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel, on Sunday from 1:00pm-6:00pm, a scripture service will begin at 4:00pm.
Anna was born in Redford, County, Missouri, the oldest daughter of Earnest Barton and Ora Lucille (Mann) Barton. Anna married Nick Annese on May 17, 1952 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Arcadia, Missouri. Anna was the matriarch of the Annese family and was the "Rock" in keeping the large family together. Anna worked 22 years for Corunna Public Schools as a paraprofessional. After retiring, she volunteered at the Community District LIbrary Friends group and was instrumental in helping to establish their used bookstore. She was an avid reader and great supporter of Corunna Athletics.
Anna and Nick were blessed with five children. Nick preceded her in death without getting to enjoy their 16 grandchildren who were her pride and joy. She loved cooking for them and spent many memorable hours watching them play sports. She is also survived by 15 great grandchildren.
Anna is survived by children: Stephanie, Steve (Penny), Mike (Renata), Tony (Christine), Phil (Vicki). Grandchildren: Nick Birchmeier, Anne Birchmeier, Nicholas J. Annese, Amanda Schuster, Angela Gilson, Stephen A. Annese, Andrew Annese, Samantha Dekkinga, Matthew Annese, Steven R. Annese, Nicholas P. Annese, Alexandra Hamel, Anthony M. Annese, Phillip Annese, Anthony W. Annese, Ryan Annese. Anna leaves behind many special friends, also, sister Wanda (deceased) and brothers Charles and Jerry and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to "Corunna Athletics" to continue improving the Nick Annese Athletic Field.
