Sister Anna Marie Becker, C.P., 96, formerly Sister Assumpta, a Sister of the Cross and Passion, died peacefully on June 27, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, CT, as the result of a recent fall.
Sister Anna Marie was born in Pittsburgh, PA, to Stephen and Catherine Becker on September 11, 1928. She entered the Passionist Sisters in 1951 and professed her final vows in 1956. An excellent educator, Sister taught in schools in Rhode Island and Connecticut for many years.
A deeply spiritual woman, she served as a spiritual director, nurturing many people along the way, both at Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center in Connecticut and Our Lady Queen of Peace in Tennessee. In her own words, Sister wrote that she hoped people would recall ways her influence had honored God and given comfort to those whose love had touched her life.
Two traits that will stand out in recollections of Sister Anna Marie are her deep interest in the life of the Community and the fact that she was very consciously a product of the Depression years. Additionally, she frequently spoke of her love and support for her family, as well as her appreciation for all they did for her. Her advice and her opinions will be sorely missed.
In addition to her parents, Sister Anna Marie was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and Anthony, and her sisters Florentine, Marie, Catherine, Rose, and Elizabeth. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Resurrection will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, (July 2), at St. Brigid Church, 1083 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, CT, with a calling hour from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Church. Date and time for burial in St. Frances Cemetery, Peace Dale, RI, will be forthcoming.
