Annabelle Victoria (Mechling) Romine, 103, of Etna, formerly of Gahanna and Minerva Park, Ohio, passed away on October 30, 2024. Ann, as she was called, was born in Somerset, Ohio, on March 28, 1921 to the late Emmet and Callie (Guinsler) Mechling. She married Carl Romine, Jr., on November 28, 1948. After 59 years of marriage, Carl preceded her in death on March 27, 2008. Ann was also preceded by brothers Ernest Mechling and Wilmer Mechling, as well as granddaughter, Stacey Scruggs.
Those left to cherish Ann’s memory are her daughter Vickie L. (Roy) Scruggs, son Charles E. (Debra) Romine. Grandchildren Jennifer L. (Gary) Pister, Michael E. (Rosey Worthington) Scruggs, Matthew D. Scruggs, Amanda (Sean) Farrington, Evan (Kyliegh) Romine. Nine great grandchildren, and three great, great grandchildren.
Ann graduated from New Lexington High School in 1939. She moved to Columbus after high school where she worked as a house maid for the Canter family, a well-known radio announcer at the time. She left there and worked at Timken Roller Bearing Company during WWII as a “Rosie the Riveter”. Her job was to inspect the roller bearings for flaws. Ann worked at the Minerva Lake Golf Course from 1969 until it closed in 2016, serving snacks at the food counter.
Immediate family will greet friends and family from 11 am to 1 pm, Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Newcomer Northeast, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, OH. A service to honor Ann’s life will be held at 1 pm, Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at the funeral home. The family has requested friends and family attending to wear colorful clothing; Ann wouldn't want it any other way! Services to be officiated by grandson-in-law, Pastor Sean Farrington. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Garden, 5600 E. Broad Street, Columbus, OH 43213.
