Anne Hunter Obituary

Visit the Hancock Funeral Home, Inc. - Americus website to view the full obituary.

Anne Wootten Hunter of Hiawassee, GA passed away on September 22, 2025, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Anne was born on October 9, 1957 in Americus, GA to Martha Anne Wootten Hunter and Samuel R. Hunter, Sr. She graduated from Americus High School and received her interior design degree from Brenau College in Gainesville, GA where she was a member of Chi Omega women’s fraternity. She carried her love for her Chi Omega experience throughout her life by collecting a multitude of owl decor.

Anne began her interior design career in Valdosta and then St. Simons Island, GA. She subsequently entered sales in Tampa, FL and surrounding areas for interior design and architectural products, where she was often recognized as a top sales person in the southeast. After many years enjoying the Florida sunshine, she retired temporarily to her childhood home in Americus to care for her mother, then spent her remaining years in the north Georgia mountains. Her home on the lake with a mountain view was her favorite place in the world. Her favorite pastimes included reading every day, taking her family and friends on pontoon boat rides on Lake Chatuge, and most especially cooking for her loved ones.

Anne was known far and wide for her culinary skills; cooking and baking were her language of love. The cheese straws were always within reach, the butterbeans were always simmering, and the tea punch was always flowing. She prepared legendary holiday dinners, but her masterpiece was her caramel cake, a labor of love and the grand finale of every family gathering. She knew the history of every family recipe, mixing bowl, and measuring spoon. Every dish was a testament to her love for her family.

Anne joins her parents in Heaven. She is survived by her brothers Sam Hunter, Jr. (Reba) of Americus, GA and Paul Hunter (Nancy) of St. Petersburg, FL; nieces and nephews Laura Hunter Erickson (David), Chris Hunter (Jennifer), Leigh Anne Hunter Comer (Clay), and Sam P. Hunter (Melissa); and the “lights of her life”, her great-nieces and great-nephews Christopher Hunter, Caroline Erickson, Claire Erickson, and Savannah Comer.

John 11:25-26 "Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die."

A celebration of life will be held at First Methodist Church in Americus, GA on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 2:00PM with Rev. Daryl Brown officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at 1:00 PM. A graveside service will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Methodist Church, 200 S. Lee St., Americus, GA 31709.
