In Loving Memory of Anne Marie Unkle
On Saturday, November 1, 2025, Anne Marie Unkle, 84, a long-time resident of
Beltsville, MD, passed away peacefully at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical
Center in Columbia, MD. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Anne was born on January 10, 1941 to Joseph and Teresa Miceli. She grew up in
Schenectady, NY and was the youngest child of 6 (2 sisters and 3 brothers). After
graduating high school she worked for the government as a secretary. That is where she
met her future husband, Bob Unkle. His first words to her were “Hey Shorty”. She
always laughed when telling that story. They fell in love, married, moved to Maryland,
and settled in Prince Georges county.
Anne dedicated most of her life to her family, caring for her children and husband, and
creating a comfortable, nurturing, and loving home. After her kids were grown she
worked at the University of Maryland, University College where she met some
wonderful friends. She was a great cook and loved trying new recipes. She was famous
for her pumpkin bread. She always had some ready when the grandkids came to visit.
Her Christmas cookies were the best.
She loved being near the water. She also loved eating crabs and watching Hallmark
movies. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church parish for over 55 years.
Most of all, she loved her family and friends—especially her children, grandchildren,
and great-grandchildren—with all her heart.
She is survived by her three children: Karla Unkle (Dwyer), Laura Unkle (DeGrouchy),
and Robert Allen Unkle, Jr. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Christina
DeSantis (Dwyer), Scott Dwyer, and Allie DeGrouchy; and two great-grandchildren:
Gabriella DeSantis and Dylan DeSantis.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bob, her sisters Mary and
Antoinette, and her brothers Pat, Stevie, and Dominic.
Friends and relatives will be received on Tuesday, November 11th, at 11:00 am, followed
by a funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 11007
Montgomery Road, Beltsville, MD 20705. Immediately following the funeral service,
Anne will be entombed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring,
Maryland 20906.
