Frank Unkle Obituary

Frank T. Unkle

Franklin T. Unkle, born December 2, 1936, in Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

The son of Truman and Natalie (Rieck) Unkle, Frank graduated from DeVilbiss High School before beginning a life marked by hard work. He spent a short time as a Union Carpenter, worked at Lido Lanes bowling alley, and later ran the Park Café before realizing his dream of owning and operating Frank Unkle's Restaurant, a beloved local spot remembered by many for its good food and friendly atmosphere. Frank was very active in the restaurant community, serving as President of the Northwest Ohio Restaurant Association, and as a member of Lucas County Tavern Keepers, Convention Bureau, and the Easter Seal Committee.

Frank had a deep affection for classic and antique cars, especially his treasured 1946 Lincoln Continental, and he shared his home and heart with a long line of loyal dogs over the years. Whether behind the wheel of a vintage car or behind the counter at his restaurant, he was known for his warmth, steady presence, and ability to make anyone feel welcome.

Frank is survived by his children, Kent (Darla) Unkle, and Tracy (Bruce) Saba; grandchildren, Bruce Saba, Brandon Saba, Bridgette (Justin) Swartz, Shannon (Nick) Kimberly, and Shane Unkle; great-grandchildren, Brady Swartz, Carter Swartz, Mariah Kimberly, Payton Meyer, Arianna Kimberly, Bella Unkle, and Melaina Unkle; siblings, Charles Unkle and Louise Burr; and former spouses, Carol Lee Unkle and Sharon Unkle.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Walker Funeral Home, 5155 W. Sylvania Ave, Toledo, on Monday, October 13, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, or Cedar Creek Church.

The beautiful Frank Unkle's restaurant in South Toledo, on the river, is a fond memory I will never forget. In high school, it was THE place to go for prom or homecoming. Dining there with the gorgeous view of the river was so lovely. Thank you, Mr. Unkle, for creating a beautiful restaurant to remember.
