Mrs. "Mildred" Annie Hill, age 83, of
Sanford, NC transitioned to eternal rest on Friday, March 21, 2025, at her residence.
Annie Womble Hill, known to many as Mildred, was born on November 5, 1941, in Chatham County, North Carolina to the late John Lee Palmer and Dora Lee Currie. She was a lifelong resident of Gulf, North Carolina. Annie departed her earthly journey on Friday, March 21, 2025, at home surrounded by family and loved ones.
Annie was a proud graduate of J.S. Waters School and St. Augustine's University. She was a faithful member of Macedonia AME Zion Church. She dedicated her career to serving others, working at the Palomino Hotel in Sanford and A.J. Schnierson in Siler City. She later retired from Central Carolina Hospital after 43 years of devoted service as a dietary worker-a role she cherished because it allowed her to care for the people around her.
She left behind a legacy of love, laughter and unmatched style. Annie lived life on her own terms, always telling it like it was with a sharp wit that made everyone around her laugh. But beneath that tough exterior was a heart full of love for her family and the community she held dear.
Family was at the core of who Annie was. She was the rock for her daughter and grandchildren, always showing up to support their every endeavor, from events to extracurricular activities. Her devotion to her loved ones was unwavering, and she took immense pride in being involved in their lives. She wasn't just a mother and grandmother – she was their number one cheerleader. Annie was a woman of glamour, always impeccably dressed and never without her signature holiday earrings, a testament to her attention to detail and love for all things festive. She made every moment feel special, and her vibrant spirit was felt wherever she went. In the kitchen, Annie was a force to be reckoned with. She loved to cook, and her meals were always a highlight of every family gathering. One of Mildred's favorite traditions was the annual 5:00am Christmas Eve shopping trips and we will forever remember the joy and laughter that filled those early morning hours.
Annie is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather, John Wesley Currie; daughter, Cindy Jeanette Nelson; sister, Bessie Jackson; nephew, Billy Jackson, whom she raised as a son.
Annie leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories with her beloved husband, Leroy Hill; one daughter, Karen Nelson Frazier (Earl) of Siler City, NC; one son, Donald Jackson of Gulf, NC; two stepdaughters, Annie Mae Hill of South Carolina and Gloria Patterson of Sanford; one sister, Frances Matthews (Cliff) of Fuquay-Varina, NC; and one brother, John Currie (Judy) of Durham, NC.
She was a devoted grandmother to Kenesha Williams (Antonio) of
Sanford, NC, and Kenia Tabon (De-Mario) of Asheboro, NC, as well as a loving great-grandmother to Cameron, Kyra, Amiyah, and Kinslee. Annie also leaves behind her great-great-grandchild, Kamillia; her goddaughter, Cynthia Pearson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, stepchildren, work family, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Though Mrs. Annie may no longer be with us, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be missed beyond words.
