Annie Mae Martin, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on November 3, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Annie was born July 24, 1944, in Jeanerette, Louisiana to Thelma Hudson and Earl Harris Sr. She was the fifth of seven children: Shirley, Chester, Ernest, Mary, Eva, and Earl Jr.
Annie moved to Spokane, Washington in 1962, with her sister Eva and brother Earl. In 1963, she met Robert L. Martin Sr. (Bob), and they got married on June 6, 1964. They were married for 40 years until his passing in January 2005. Annie and Bob brought three beautiful children into this world, Lanette, Rose, and Robert Jr. and lost one child at birth, Diane.
She had many jobs throughout her career, including making blinds, catering in kitchens like the Spokane Club, selling her southern pound cakes, cleaning homes, but spent most of her time caring for young children. She was a nanny and a foster grandparent.
Annie loved angels, high-heeled shoes, and getting dressed up; she was always ready to pose for a picture! She could get down in the kitchen; she put her foot in many dishes. She found joy in caring for people through her food. She loved cooking, baking, and seeing the joy on people's faces sitting at her table. One of the things she will always be known for is the variety of delicious cakes she made. Most of all she loved sharing and having good conversations, embedded with lots of laughter. Annie's heart was GOLD!
She devoted her life to Christ and created an inseparable bond with God. A woman of valor, courage, strength, and dignity. She honored God, served out of love, and always had a positive outlook on life. She has been a proud member of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ since she moved to Spokane. With her church she served her community, provided a listening ear and words of encouragement to all. She was a prayer warrior. She trusted God with her whole life, encouraging everyone even in her last days that "God's got her." There is no doubt how much she loved the Lord.
Annie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, friend, and so much more to so many people. She loved hard and unconditionally. She will be remembered for her faith in God, her prayers, words of encouragement, her selflessness, her smile, and her contagious laugh, which was so often.
Annie was predeceased by her father Earl Sr., mother Thelma, brothers Ernest and Chester and husband Bob. Her legacy lives on through her daughters Lanette and Rose, her son Robert Jr. Her grandchildren Tyneshia, Bryn, Micah, Indiah (Justin), Slater (Mariah), Gabriel (Meghan), Brooklyn, and Mia. Her great-grandchildren Prestyn, Londyn, Landon, Kingston, Tatum, and Remi. Her sisters Shirley, Mary, and Eva, and brother Earl. A host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. She will remain in our hearts forever as she rejoices with the Lord in Heaven.
