On September 29, 1940, in Broadwater, Nebraska, a boy was born to the proud parents of Robert and Beryl Hanway. They welcomed this 'babe' to the world as the second to the youngest of 13 children and christened him with the name of Anson Elliott Hanway. However, the nickname 'Babe' was also born and became his namesake.
This was the beginning of the life of our father and grandfather. On March 10, 2025, he peacefully ended his journey through life in
Nampa, Idaho at his home with his granddaughter at his side.
Dad spent the first few years of his life in Nebraska, then as a young child migrated to Idaho with his family. He grew up in Nampa, graduating from Nampa High School in 1958. He had many friends in high school, and they enjoyed traveling to Marsing to attend functions. This is where Dad met his true love, Carol Ann (Hanway)
Christiansen in 1958, at a church function. They were married January 3, 1960, in Nampa.
Mom and Dad bought their first home in Nampa in 1960, where they lived when Kent, their only child, was born in 1962. They resided in Nampa for the next 65 years, where they bought their forever home in the country in 1974, living there for the remainder of their lives.
After graduating high school, Dad worked at several different jobs including Nordling Auto, Broadmore Mobile Home factory, and then spent most of his career at Aluma Glass Industries, where he worked in sales and as Inventory Purchasing Manager. After leaving Aluma Glass in the late 1990's, Dad worked briefly for Capitol Glass
before retiring in 2000.
Dad loved spending time outdoors fishing, snowmobiling and camping. He loved to ride mountain roads on his four-wheelers with his grandkids or explore new places in his Jeep. He spent many years snowmobiling in the high country, often spending the night in remote communities only accessible on a snowmobile. Dad also
loved to work in his shops, either rebuilding cars, maintaining equipment, or crafting beautiful creations from wood scraps. There was never a tool he didn't love (or have).
Upon their retirement, Dad and Mom took to the open road in their motorhome and spent many winters enjoying the sun and warmer weather in Arizona. Dad enjoyed playing golf, attending flea markets and Jeep riding with his RV friends. He loved to share stories of trips made to Austria, Canada and Italy with his family.
The family would like to especially thank Corinne Rippie for her live-in care for Dad during his last years. You cooked wonderful meals (even got him to like vegetables), kept the house clean, nurtured Mom's flowers and bore the brunt of a stubborn man! Thank you for your love and caring attitude. A hearty thanks also to Joe
Bloom, a close friend who visited almost daily, helping around the house and trading stories, and to Kathy Harris for her sweet treats, home-cooked meals, watchful eyes, and neighborly outreach. All of you made Dad's final years more complete.
Dad is survived by his son Kent (Lori) Hanway; grandchildren, Jennifer Hanway (Sean Lee) and Chelsea (Chris) Overton, his brother Grant (Yvonne) Hanway, and his sisters Beverly Vaudrey, and Carolyn (Ben) Collins as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Dad was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Hanway, his parents, Robert and Beryl Hanway, his brothers and sisters Retha Holliday, Robert Hanway, Raymond Hanway, Ralph Hanway, Howard Hanway, William Hanway, Patricia Frain, Darrel Hanway, and Darlene Coomes.
A graveside memorial service will be held at the Marsing-Homedale Cemetery on May 15th, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Afterwards, friends and family are invited to gather at Midway Park in
Nampa, Idaho (next to his home) for a Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name can be made to Elevate Academy, a school dedicated to 'bringing out the genius in every kid' through focus on the trades, at this link https://square.link/u/Ua4FITCP.
