Anthony Quentin Baxter

Anthony Quentin Baxter, 84, husband to Lavenia Ison for forty-three years, died Tuesday November 5, 2024. Born on October 23, 1940, in Princeton, New Jersey, he was the son of the late William Oliver and Cynthia Binns Baxter. Tony was a graduate of Landon School in Maryland, Union College in New York, and received his Ph. D. in computer science from the University of Virginia in 1974. A lifelong fan of Louis Armstrong, he played the trumpet in his youth. Tony was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a computer science professor at the University of Kentucky for over thirty years, a private pilot and longtime treasurer of the Lexington Flying Club, and CEO of Correct Care Integrated Health, Inc. Tony was a devoted father to Bethany Nicole Baxter (Willie Davis) of Lexington, Kentucky; Natalie Michelle Baxter (Joshua Simpson) of Wassaic, New York; Jennifer Baxter Averbeck (Cody) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren Eliot, Franklin, Geneva, Petra, Gordon, Rowan, and Willa. He is also survived by his sister Prudence Hoppin (Thomas), nephew Christopher Ginter (Beth), and niece Hilary Ginter (Greg Jilek). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m Monday, November 11, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 533 East Main Street, Lexington, preceded by a visitation at 10:00 a.m. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, where Tony was a longtime member, and God's Pantry Food Bank where he volunteered for many years.
