It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anthony Dale Bridges, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, who left this world on June 3, 2025, in Akron, Ohio. Born on August 26, 1957, in Cleveland, Tennessee, Anthony was a simple man who cherished moments spent with family and friends.
For over 35 years, Anthony worked at Ohio State Waterproofing. Beyond his career, he loved sports in both his leisure activities and family life. He would play catch with his son’s proclaiming, "I'm a natural athlete and can play any sport." anytime he made a flashy catch. Anthony's love for sports extended to his education, where he excelled in wrestling and pursued a journey toward becoming a coach. Anthony also loved to golf, often seen swinging clubs with friends. He found immense joy watching sports with his family and cherished his time riding horses with his cousin Pam, creating memories that will forever be cherished.
Anthony also loved his movies. If he had some down time, he’d likely be found watching one of his favorites. He could recite his favorite movies by heart which included The Fugitive, The Firm, US Marshals, The Hunger Game series, and Dodgeball. One could say he had a thing for Jenifer Lawence, often focusing on movies starring the esteemed actress.
Anthony was a man who deep inside appreciated his wife and sons above anything else, with his proudest accomplishment raising Alex (Liz Nissel) Bridges and Matt Bridges. His legacy continues through them. His greatest love was his wife, Lyn Bridges. He would always have a present for her ready on mother’s day and birthdays, even though later in his life he couldn’t leave the home, making sure to call her sister in secret conspiracy to deliver presents without being discovered.
Left to cherish Anthony's memory are his loving wife of 41 years, Lyn Bridges, who stood beside him through all of life’s seasons; his sons, Alex (Liz Nissel) Bridges and Matt Bridges; and his father, Rev. Jack Bridges. Anthony also leaves behind his siblings: Gail Pastoria, William (Peggy) Bridges, Cynthia (Robert) Dunham, and John Bridges, along with his mother-in-law, Marian Verbanas. He is remembered by his siblings-in-law, John (Traci) Herhold, Mark (Kim) Herhold, and Kristen Cooper, and leaves a legacy of love through many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Claudine Bridges, and his father-in-law, Tom Herhold.
As we honor Anthony’s life, we take comfort in the love he shared-a love that will forever resonate within the hearts of his family and friends. He will be missed dearly, but his spirit will continue to inspire us all to cherish the simple joys and deep connections that define our lives.
Visitation is Saturday June 14th from 10-11 AM and services begin promptly at 11 AM all at Newcomer Funeral Home.
