Jordan Steckel Obituary

Jordan Fredrick Steckel, 43, passed away on August 23, 2025. Born November 16, 1981, in Ravenna, Ohio, to Carl and Mary Steckel, Jordan grew up in Randolph, Ohio, and graduated from Waterloo High School and Maplewood JVS, where he honed his skills in electronics. From a young age, Jordan had a natural talent for fixing things, solving problems, and taking on challenges—qualities that stayed with him his entire life.

Jordan could turn his hand to just about anything, earning him the reputation of a true jack of all trades. Friends and family knew him as the first person to call when something needed fixing—or when a helping hand was simply needed—and he was always there. His generosity, reliability, and willingness to help were hallmarks of his character.

He worked at Robinson Memorial Hospital and Kent State University in Maintenance, where he enjoyed not only the work itself but also the people he got to share it with. Jordan loved a good challenge, whether it was a mechanical puzzle, a household repair, or helping a friend figure something out.

Outside of work, Jordan had a life full of passions. A devoted fan of Cleveland sports, he loved watching games with his dad and friends, often accompanied by a well-timed movie quote or his signature sense of humor. Music played an important role in his life, and he delighted in sharing new songs and bands with those around him. Jordan also loved hunting, fishing, firearms, golden retrievers, and sitting by a campfire or traveling with family and friends.

He was known for his quick wit, teasing nature, and playful sense of humor, bringing laughter wherever he went. Jordan’s family, friends, and colleagues will remember him not only for his skills and talents but for the joy, laughter, and light he brought into their lives.

Jordan is survived by his parents, Carl & Mary Steckel; his sister, Nicole Harsh, and her husband, Joe Harsh; his nephews, Kegan Steckel and Gavan Harsh; as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Jordan is preceded in death by his grandparents, Louis & Irene Schiele and Harry & Thelma Steckel, and cousin, Christopher Hoskins.

A celebration of Jordan’s life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 on Sunday, August 31st from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., when the memorial service will begin. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made directly to Nicole for the formation of a grant in Jordan's memory, honoring his generous spirit and love of helping others. Jordan Fredrick Steckel may have left this world, but the laughter, love, and memories he shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
