Anthony Lynn “Tony” Daughtry, 65, of Owensboro, KY, closed his eyes on earth and opened them in Heaven on Saturday June 1, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with brain cancer.
He was born on March 21, 1959 to the late Shirley & Myrna Stinnett Daughtry, in Owensboro, KY. Growing up he was a loved, mischievous little boy that challenged his parents with his antics. One of his favorite things to do was to pester his sisters. Around the age of twelve, he accepted Jesus as his personal savior and determined to share this belief for the rest of his life. Tony was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church. He was a 1977 graduate of Owensboro High School, where he ran cross country.
As a teenager, while visiting a new church he met the love of his life, Anita, whom he later married and shared adventures, love, and memories with. The greatest gift of their union was their son, Wesley. Until Tony could no longer speak, he told everyone he met, how proud he was of his son and his accomplishments.
He began working at the age of sixteen, at George Mischel & Sons Monument Co. alongside his father, uncles, and cousins. He also worked at the HON Co. for 12 years and Miles Farm Supply for 17 years. In addition, he took pride in meticulously remodeling and maintaining his own homes. He enjoyed coin collecting, listening to music, and playing guitar, and bringing people together at class and family reunions.
There are many words that could be used to describe him: hardworking, perfectionist, dependable, determined, compassionate, and opinionated. Most of all, he was a good and honest man that added value to the world. He will be greatly missed by everyone that crossed paths with him.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Anita Pierce Daughtry, son, Wesley Daughtry (Steve Kratzer), sisters, Tonya Mayton (Steve), Tammy Barnett (Mike), his brothers-in-law, Ben Pierce (Lyn), Jason Pierce (Nan). Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be Noon Thursday, June 6 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 PM until 7 PM Wednesday and from 10 AM until the time of the service Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at the Heartford House for all the love and compassionate care they gave Tony.
