ANTHONY LEE "Tony" MARTIN, age 64, passed away tragically May 12, 2025. Born on April 16, 1961, in Washington, D.C., and was father of Tereva Martin. Tony lived a life defined by strength, dedication, and compassion. Tony was a proud graduate of Brookhaven High School, where he was known for his talent on the basketball court. His drive and determination led him to further his education at Mansfield Business College. But it was in the trades where Tony truly found his calling. At just 17 years old, inspired by his uncle and close friends, he began working iron--an early start to what would become a lifelong and passionate career as an ironworker. He became a proud member of Iron Workers Local #172, where he earned the admiration of his peers through his unmatched work ethic and skill. Tony often said he was "the greatest IRON WORKER #172," and those who worked alongside him would agree. His pride in his craft was evident in every beam he set and every project he touched. Tony came from a large and loving family. He was one of six siblings--three sisters and two brothers and supported them in every way he could. He shared deep bonds with Lloyd Martin II, Linda Martin, Quinn Martin, Teresa Brown, and held a special place in his heart for his beloved sister Penny Gore. He was also dearly loved by his Uncle Cecil.
Tony carried with him the memory of those who passed before him: his cherished sister Penny Gore, his precious mother Rachel Davis, and his dear grandfather Lloyd Jr. Their influence remained with him throughout his life. Outside of work, Tony had many passions that brought joy to those around him. He was an avid pool player and enjoyed playing 5,000 Remy. A creative mind, he loved designing blueprints and was always building or working on a new project. In quieter moments, he could be found grilling outdoors or relaxing with his favorite remote control in hand watching movies. Some of his most treasured times were spent going out to eat or catching a film with his daughter. Tony had a gift for fixing things--not just objects but also people's spirits. He was everyone's go-to guy: dependable, nonjudgmental, and full of wisdom. His compassion ran deep; he truly cared about how others were feeling and always offered guidance with sincerity and strength. He believed in helping others carry their burdens while never complaining about his own. A man of reflection as well as action, Tony was also a writer who left behind thoughts that continue to inspire: "Don't be around people full of negative energy." "Have to be careful of who you share with." "Don't tell too much of what you think or do." "Don't give people too many tools to use against you--to bring down your joy and stability." Tony's words reflect the resilience and insight that defined his life--a legacy not only built in steel but also in spirit. May the memory of Anthony Lee "Tony" Martin bring comfort to all who knew him and continue to guide those whose lives he touched.
