WAREHAM – Anthony M. Pepe, 82, of Plymouth and Quincy, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family, following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was the loving husband of MaryAnne (Matthews) Pepe and the son of the late Nicholas and Marie (Dantoni) Pepe of Quincy.
Tony was raised in Quincy, graduating from Quincy High School in 1959. He spent many years as a camper, counselor and then director of Camp Burgess in Sandwich. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, defending his country throughout the Cuban Missile Crisis aboard the USS Meadowlark minesweeper. He received a bachelor's degree from Fitchburg State College where he met the love of his life, MaryAnne. He went on to receive a master's degree in education from Rhode Island College. Tony and MaryAnne spent 50 years raising their family in Plymouth before moving to Wareham in 2020, where he spent his final years looking out on the river.
Mr. Pepe taught Industrial Arts at Plymouth Carver High School from 1969 to 2001, providing generations of students the skills in woodworking, metals, drafting, glass works, and all types of trades. He was active in the union and was known for his calm but firm demeanor and ability to negotiate.
Tony enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family, especially with his adored grandchildren. He was a wonderful and talented craftsman, mason and furniture maker. He could repair and fix anything. His garage was full to the brim with every tool imaginable and was always willing to help anyone in need. He was a kind and gentle soul, leaving his imprint on everyone he encountered.
Tony is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, MaryAnne (Matthews) Pepe; his son, Kevin Pepe and his wife, Amy Massey of Sandwich; his daughter, Krysten Condon Esq. of Plymouth; his sister, Dorothy Nogueira of Halifax; and his grandchildren: James, Griffin and Olivia Condon, Nicholas and Grace Pepe, Kinsley and Ryland Weider.
