Anthony Scharschmidt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Zacherl Funeral Home - Fond du Lac on Jul. 30, 2024.
Anthony "Tony" G. Scharschmidt, 90, passed away on July 26, 2024 at SSM Agnesian Hospital in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. He was born December 3, 1933, the son of Anthony Albert and Marguerite Rose (Klingbeil) Scharschmidt.
Tony graduated from Oakfield High School in 1951. After graduation he lived in Alaska for a short time before returning to Wisconsin to work construction in the family business. Tony enlisted in the United States Army in 1955 and served for two years. He was a long-time employee of Wisconsin Power and Light (now Alliant Energy) working first as a lineman and then as a crew supervisor until his retirement in 1991. After his "official" retirement, he worked part-time for Michels Corporation as long as the work didn't interfere with his hunting schedule.
Tony was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He married Verna Mae Flury on April 4, 1956 at the Church of Peace in Fond du Lac. The couple shared 68 years together with 64 of those living in the house Tony built in Brownsville. They raised a family of five children; Debra, Joan, Joyce, Steve, and Scott. Over the years, their family grew to include 13 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.
Tony loved the outdoors. His passion for hunting and fishing gave him many opportunities to develop close relationships with family members and friends during hours spent in the woods and on the water. Tony cherished his time bear hunting with his buddies Ralph and Marty. Tony's hobbies included gardening, woodworking, rock collecting, wine making, food preservation, playing cribbage and pinochle, and working crossword puzzles. He was an avid reader of newspapers and books, especially enjoying books on history.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister-in-law.
Survivors include his wife, 3 sisters, and all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Per Tony's wishes, no services will be held. Cremation has occurred.
The celebration of Tony's life is in the memories of all those that knew him.
