Verna Mae Scharschmidt, 89, of Brownsville passed away on September 5, 2025, at SSM St. Agnes Hospital. She was born in Oakfield on October 14,1935, the daughter of Roy Edward and Helen "Peggy" Evia (Pollock) Flury.

Verna grew up on a farm in the Oakfield area. She attended Oakfield High School, graduating in 1953. Following graduation, she worked as a secretary at Wisconsin Power and Light until her marriage.

On April 4, 1956, Verna married Anthony "Tony" G. Scharschmidt at the Church of Peace in Fond du Lac. The couple shared 68 years together. They had five children; Debra, Joan, Joyce, Steven and Scott. Over the years their family grew to include 13 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. One of Verna's greatest joys was holding newborn family members.

Verna was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a true homemaker, providing love, support and nourishment for her family. Verna was a great cook and baked the most delicious desserts. She enjoyed gardening, canning, reading, walking, and playing cribbage. Bowling was one of her favorite activities. Spending time at the cottage "up north" was a highlight of her summer each year. She also enjoyed holiday gatherings and traveling with her family.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sisters-in-law, and 2 brothers-in-law.

Verna is survived by a sister Lois, 3 brothers; Ronald, Walter, and Wayne, and all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In accordance with Verna's wishes, no service will be held. Cremation has occurred.

The celebration of Verna's life is in the memories of all those that knew her. Her beautiful smile and her kindness will be deeply missed.
