Anthony J. ("Tony") Stanley, Jr., born February 17, 1939, in Washington, DC, entered into the nearer presence of God on December 27, 2024. He and his wife, Karen, recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. He leaves behind his daughter Susan (Mrs. Patrick) McDevitt and granddaughters Catherine (Mrs. Tyler) Wagner and Elizabeth (Mrs. Robin) Siegel, of Roswell, Georgia.
Following a career in public relations with Blue Cross-Blue Shield in Richmond, VA, and in Atlanta, GA, the Stanleys moved to White Stone in 1980. He began Stanley and Associates, a public relations and advertising agency which later became Tony Stanley Photography. He was a Certified Professional Photographer and member of Professional Photographers of America.
Tony served on the organizing committee of the Interfaith Service Council and was the organization's first elected president in 1982. He continued volunteering as one of Interfaith's "warehouse crew." In 1984, he was appointed to the Lancaster County Social Services Board. His passion for helping those in need continued in his retirement. He assisted with the White Stone Baptist Food Pantry, advocated for local mission projects and participated in three St. Andrews Presbyterian Church mission teams through Presbyterian Disaster Assistance projects following Hurricane Katrina.
Through the Northumberland County Animal Shelter, Tony fostered three dogs, adopting two, Ches and Bailey, who, in turn, were beloved, constant companions for 10 years. Tony enjoyed cruising with family and friends. He traveled on 28 cruises to more than 50 countries and territories, spending time in over 100 different ports and cities.
Tony was an ordained elder and deacon in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Kilmarnock.
A memorial service is planned for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, at Brett-Reed Memorial Presbyterian Church, 29680 King William Road, West Point, VA. The Rev. Dr. Thomas R. Coye is officiating.
Contributions in memory of Tony Stanley may be made to the Interfaith Service Council of Lancaster and Northumberland or to St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Mission and Service Fund.
