Anthony H. "Tony" Van Ert, age 90, passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024, at home with his loving daughter Chrissy by his side.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. with military honors. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the services at the funeral Home.
He was born on July 5, 1934, in Wisconsin Rapids, the son of Harold and Faith (Eneas) Van Ert. Tony graduated in 1952 from Aquinas High School in La Crosse while living with Evy and Jerry Schams and their family on a large dairy farm. He served his country in the United States Army from 1955-1957. Tony married Betty Lou Miller on June 20, 1959, at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage and two daughters Christine and Toni Lynn. Tony worked for Consolidated papers until his retirement. Tony loved the outdoors; he was involved in the Consolidated papers fast pitch softball team. He built houses and did cement work on the side. He was also a Boy Scout leader for SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Tony and Betty spent many summers "up north" in pursuit of trophy musky. He was known as the "Muskie Stalker" Tony and Betty also enjoyed pheasant hunting and salmon snagging together. Tony, Betty and their family enjoyed traveling around the Great Lakes. Mackinaw Island and Manistique, Michigan were among their favorite places to visit. Tony was also an avid NASCAR fan. For birthdays tony preferred apple pie over birthday cake. Some of his favorite foods included Pepsi and bacon.
Tony is survived by his daughter Chrissy Van Ert, his granddaughter Kortney (Kyle) Veitengruber, his grand dogs Maddie and Jager and by his brother Joe Van Ert. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty in 2017, his daughter Toni Lynn; his brothers, Harold Jr., John and William; his sisters, Mable, Magdalene, Terry, Franny, Karlene and Kathlene; he was further preceded in death by his in-laws Chet and Dorothy Miller.
The family would like to thank his neighbors Joan and John Barton and to staff of Aspirus Hospice for the care they gave Tony.
