Antonio Nicola "Nick" Catricala passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his Medford home on January 15th. He was 73. A native of Olivadi, Calabria, Italy, Nick was the son of the late Nicola and Angela (Puntieri) Catricala.
Nick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. When Nick came to America, he initially lived in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Boston and worked in Boston's North End, at restaurants, such as Cantina Italiana, Paradiso and Saraceno. Nick also worked as a machinist in a spring manufacturer for many years. In 2002 Nick opened Bocelli's Restaurant in South Medford. There he created a fine restaurant, well known for its authentic Italian food and friendly service which soon became a local landmark. Nick loved the people of Medford and it gave him joy to offer hospitality, both at his business and at his home. His superior work ethic, the support of his family, and their appreciation for their patrons were part of the recipe for success. Nick met his future wife, Tina, over food, at a picnic. They married in 1978 and came to Medford in 1982. Nick enjoyed his family and had delighted in spending time with his 18 grandchildren.
The beloved husband of Enza "Tina" (Lisi) Catricala, Nick was a devoted father to Michael Catricala and his wife Diane of Stoneham, Antonio Catricala, Jr., and his wife Daniella of Naples, FL, Annemarie Baker and her husband Ronald of Medford, Angela Seluta and her husband Brendan of Woburn, and Monica Lester and her husband David of North Reading. Nick was a loving grandfather to Kyle, Kira, Julia, Lila, Eva, Gabriela, Lucca, Brianna, Olivia, Brynn, Reese, Zackary, Brody, Benjamin, Bradley, Avianna, Nicholas and Brielle. He was a dear brother to the late Vito, Frank, Ada, Rosetta and Paul and to his surviving brothers, Alfredo and Vittorio.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford on Monday, January 27 from 4-8 PM and again on Tuesday, January 28 at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 AM at Saint Joseph Church, 118 High St., Medford. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

My family always went to Nick´s restaurant. The food was outstanding and we all loved it. My late sister and I shared many meals at Boccelli´s. It was like our second home. Rest in Peace Nick. Sending prayers and deepest sympathies to his family.

I found out today that Nick had passed away. I met Nick back in 2011 or 2012 while working for Restaurant Depot where I'd see him or his son almost every morning. Both awesome people. Nick would stop by to see me every morning for a short conversation. And a pat on the back. Of course Nick invited me up to the restaurant and was always so generous and good to me every time I stopped by Bocellis. After moving away I came back to find Nick had sold the restaurant but I can't forget what a good man he was. Rest in Paradise Nick and sending love to his family..

I had dinner at Bocelli´s this evening and learned Nick had passed. He was one of my favorite people. He worked so hard and ran such a great restaurant. I was the Chief of the LMH Emergency Department and met Nick many years ago. I had all my staff dinners there and many of my staff holiday parties. I cared for Nick and a number of his family members. He will always have a specials place in my heart.

He worked as a waiter in the Cantina on Hanover Street. I worked as a busboy for him. He knew my father, Ralph Bruno, very well. I hadn´t seen him in years until I dined at his restaurant. He really never changed, he looked the same. His daughter waited on me and I told her I was from the North End and she said her father worked there at the Cantina! When he came out from the kitchen I knew right away who he was. I am so sorry for your loss, he was a gentleman always. RIP

No better person to have dealt with for family gatherings. He always made you feel not to worry. Our family remembers Nick and Enza when they first opened up their restaurant and how it grew on being a wonderful family restaurant. We thank you and your family for all the wonderful times you provided us with great food and hospitality. May our good GOD welcome you home. Fondly, Bob Penta and Family

I first met Nick at SARACENOs as a young kid on a date. He treated me like a friend and made my night special. I enjoyed his company and later on Boccellis. A place where we continually had our family gatherings. Rest in peace my friend. I will miss your smile.
