Apophia Jolly Kemirembe Nabaasa. Daughter to John William Mashande and Vasta Kamarembo Barimbize, both from Kabingo village in the district of Rukungiri. In Uganda, Apophia had two younger sisters, Beatrice and Hope. She also had four brothers, Solomon, Davis, Gerald, James, and many cousins on both sides of her family along with many uncles and aunties and other extended relatives. Apophia attended Ikuniro Church School as a little girl where she enjoyed reading, writing, and playing on the playground, mainly running, which prepared her to be a fast runner all her life in school. When she was ready for first grade, she was moved to a bigger school to start her serious work in education. She attended Katurika Primary School where she continued to excel in sports, band, and religion. She attended Kihanga Kebison Primary School where she improved her English speaking skills and music. She finished her final primary school class at Rutooma Lower Primary where she was also involved in sports and music. She attended Bishop Kivengere Girls Secondary School and loved the English language and religion a great deal. She then attended National Community College (NCC) Bushenyi Teacher Training College and became a school teacher. She enjoyed teaching. She loved her students and they loved her as well. It was in this school where she met her love Eltham Baryaruha, and shortly after graduation, they wedded.
The marriage was blessed with eight beloved children, Priscilla, Penelope, Yvonne, Steven, Abraham, Joshua, Karen, and Caleb. She also had lovely grandchildren Chloe, David, and Aaron.
Apophia had a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. She read the bible all the time and talked to others about the importance of salvation. She loved to dress up and go to church, her favorite place. She also loved to shop for food, cook it, and share it with the family. Her recent church was St. Martin de Porres church where most of her children were baptized shortly after she and the family relocated from Uganda, Africa to Toledo, Ohio. The same church employed her, and she loved her church family.
A Visitation will be held at St. Martin De Porres Church, 1119 W. Bancroft St., Toledo on Friday, April 5 from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park.
