April Marie Massengill, 46, of Fayetteville, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
She was born October 5, 1978, in Wilmington, NC to Jim and Marie Massengill. April was a graduate of Cape Fear High School, Class of 1996, UNC Pembroke and East Carolina University. At ECU she received her master’s degree in Language Disorders. She was a dedicated speech language pathologist who loved her students. She had recently established her own private speech therapy company, The Speech Cottage.
In her spare time, April loved to read. While serving students at Seabrook Elementary School she established a reading group for struggling readers to encourage their love of reading. She loved the beach and enjoyed any time spent there. She also loved all things Disney and was always planning trips for herself and others to visit the park. She liked old, vintage movies, even the silent ones.
April was devoted to her niece and nephew whom she dearly loved. She and her sister Laura had a close, loving relationship.
April was preceded by her grandparents, Ellie Manuel and MSG Elie Manuel, Eloise and Wilbert Massengill; and one uncle, Wilbert Arthur Massengill.
She is survived by her parents, Jim and Marie; sister, Laura Edwards (Clinton) of Four Oaks; nephew, James Edwards; and niece, Samantha Edwards.
A private family memorial service will be held.
