North Ft. Myers, FL – April O'Brien, a resident of North Ft. Myers, FL and previously from the Hudson Valley area, passed away on January 8, 2024, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. She was 77 years old.
April was born on May 31, 1946, the daughter of the late Ira and Hazel Newbert. She is survived by her very much-loved sister, Iris Girona.
Before retiring, April worked for many years at Diebold as a service technician repairing ATM machines, a job she thoroughly enjoyed.
April was known for her infectious smile and generous heart. One of her favorite pastimes was being in the garden. Another of April's delights was hunting for treasures at garage sales. She loved to decorate, paint, repair and organize. However, April's greatest joy came from spending time with her family in New York, Florida and the Adirondacks. April loved cooking family holiday meals and her last gift was preparing breakfast for all of us on Christmas morning. She was a wonderful sister, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. April had a strong commitment to her faith and was firmly grounded in her relationship with God.
In addition to her cherished sissy Iris, April is survived by her loving daughters: Cathy Merritt and her husband Dave, Audra Kassis and her husband George, Bridget O'Brien, and her niece Darlene Mahnken and husband Ben, who April considered as another daughter. Our family is so grateful for all she did for April when she was in Florida. She is also survived by her four much adored granddaughters, Lauren, Laila, Alyssa and Mariam and her beloved grandson Ryan. April always mentioned how blessed she felt to be a great-grandmother to Paige and Adam whom she adored with all her heart. Lastly, she is survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved so very much.
Calling hours for April will be held at McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill Inc. 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY on Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 12pm to 3pm with a service at 2:30 pm.
April will live in our hearts forever!
