Obituary published on Legacy.com by B.E. Brown & Co Mortuary on Mar. 4, 2024.
Archie William Shaw, Jr. was the second child born to Archie W. and Marcelete A. Shaw on March 4, 1956, in
Mobile, Alabama. Archie graduated from McGill-Toolen High School where he was well known for his spectacular basketball skills. After graduating, he furthered his education at Marquette University in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He met Mascelia there as they were applying for the same campus job, and since he had not ever seen her around, he assumed that she was a freshman. She firmly made him aware that she was a senior and walked away. Archie got the job. He edged her out with better typing skills.
After he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Archie and Mascelia married and moved to Chicago where he sold industrial motors for Louis Allis. One month after their marriage, Mascelia reported to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, as a 2nd Lieutenant for active duty in the U. S. Army. After enduring one year of significant travel fare to Oklahoma and long-distance phone bills, Archie moved to
Dallas, Texas, to be closer to his bride and to start a new job as a procurement engineer with Texas Instruments, Incorporated (TI). This role required significant travel. Shortly after Mascelia completed her obligation to the Army, Archie transitioned to Reliability Engineering where he worked in a variety of industries and capacities (missile systems - TI,
Lewisville, Texas; radar systems - Raytheon,
McKinney, Texas; automotive – Delphi, formerly AC Delco,
Kokomo, Indiana; helicopter manufacturing -- Rolls Royce,
Indianapolis, Indiana; heating and air conditioning -- Regal Beloit,
Cassville, Missouri). In the midst of his professional life, he completed an International Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas.
Archie loved being a reliability engineer and at times a reliability manager. He was detail-oriented and meticulous about delivering total quality and reliable products to customers. Archie and/or his direct reports wrote test plans and ran those tests to stress products to the point of failure or predict when components would fail. The family benefited most when he worked for Delphi. He brought unmarked future car models home for field testing. The Porsche Cayenne was amazing! It was fun to watch people's faces trying to discern what just passed them.
Although Archie's work life was busy, making time for the things of God was vital to him. Throughout his life he prioritized the Lord. He served as an altar boy at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church,
Mobile, Alabama. He was a Youth Group leader at First Christian Church in
Lewisville, Texas, and a Sabbath School teacher at Ahavat Yeshua Messianic Jewish Congregation (AY) in
Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was also honored to serve on the Administrative Board and as a deacon. He and Mascelia often opened the Sabbath by lighting the Shabbat Candles and saying the ancient Hebrew blessings over the bread and the wine (a loaf of traditional challah bread and a chalice of grape juice). As a father, he took seriously the role of being the priest in his home, faithfully praying and leading Bible study with the whole family every Sunday morning to give their son Wyatt and their daughter Miranda a solid foundation in God's Word and in the reverent habit of worship.
It was difficult for Archie to meet someone who did not take a liking to him, especially children (they adored him). Blessed with a calming and personable spirit, Archie did everything with grace and dignity. His quiet assured faith was an example to all who knew him.
Archie was a devoted and involved husband and father who adored his wife and cherished his children. He was fully present with his family, providing guidance and advice to enable positive outcomes in life's sometimes challenging situations. He was appropriately firm and tender, but they knew that he loved and was proud of them. In all his many roles, he still found occasional time for relaxation, and was especially fond of golfing, bicycling, and reading. But he derived his greatest moments of happiness enjoying the company of family and friends and delighting in the wonderful promises of his Lord and Savior, Jesus the Messiah. We know he met a joyful greeting in Glory, but Archie Shaw will be sorely missed here on earth until our heavenly reunion unites us again. How we will long for that day!
Archie was preceded in death by his father, Archie W. Shaw Sr., and his mother, Marcelete Alexander Shaw. Archie leaves to celebrate his life: his devoted wife of nearly 43 years, Mascelia Miranda; son, Alexander Wyatt Shaw; daughter, Miranda Shaw, DVM; sister, Marcelete Shaw Stewart; sister, Monique Shaw Evans (Dewayne); brother, Carmen Shaw (Dana); father-in-law, Curtis Miranda; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Miranda, sister-in-law, Joyce Miranda (Michael Ealey); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and friends too numerous to name.
