Arlene V. Bushue, 88, of Rankin, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Carle Foundation Hospital. She was born on July 17, 1937, in Teutopolis, IL, the daughter of Louis and Della (Hakman) Swingler. She married Harold L. Bushue on May 10, 1958, in Teutopolis, IL. He preceded her in death on December 10, 2018.
Arlene is survived by two daughters, Gina (Dan) Camp of Eureka, and Jodi (Mark) Carter of Batavia; three sons, Jeff (Pam) Bushue of Danville, Gregg (Karen) Bushue of Rankin and Marc (Sheri) Bushue of Louisville, KY; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Betty Bushue, who was an almost daily sounding board and support friend to Arlene, and Betty's daughter, Valerie Cable, who did many things for Arlene in her later years, and was a great help to the very end.
Along with her husband, Harold, she was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Della (Hakman) Swingler; her sisters, Rosemary Swingler Lueken, Jeanette Swingler Wernsing, Ellouise Swingler Wallin, and Karen Swingler Wente; her brothers, Robert Swingler, Gerald Swingler, and Louis Swingler Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Karen (Gregg) Bushue.
Baking, gardening, and crafting brought Arlene much joy throughout her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker who poured her heart into caring for her family and home.
She was a member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Rankin, IL, and a member of The Altar and Rosary Society.
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date, at Rankin Union Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in memory of Arlene to St. Anthony Catholic Church (423 S. Third St., Hoopeston, IL 60942).
