Arlin Jerome “AJ” Ingebretson of Grandview, Missouri passed peacefully on January 9, 2024 at the age of 74. Born April 25, 1949, son of Mildred (Krogstad) and Kenneth Ingebretson.
AJ is survived by daughter, Kathy (Travis) Wallace and son, Jon Ingebretson; grandchildren Mason Richman, Maguire Richman, Gannon Wallace, and Abby Wallace; brothers Roger Ingebretson, Daryl (Karen) Ingebretson, Randy (Jan) Ingebretson; sister, Rita (Gordon) Cragg; many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Millie, father Ken and sister Vicki and beloved Linda.
AJ lived life to the fullest and will be remembered as an accomplished hunter, outstanding athlete, able handyman, avid storyteller, and amateur weatherman as well as a great father, grandfather and sibling. There wasn’t a day where if something needed fixed, we couldn’t call on AJ to take on the task himself or talk us through the project weaving in life skills with stories…and he had a lot of them. While he would occasionally say he was “cornfused”, make no doubt about it, his mind was a steel trap. He looked forward to spending time each week watching his grandson’s sporting events, watching whatever sports season was on television, or talking with family and friends on his trusty flip phone. Never short of jokes, sports scores, or weather updates…the conversations were always memorable.
AJ loved family and friends and rarely a bad word was spoken of anyone. He was proud of both his children, often commenting on how Kathy could balance so many things at once and knowing if he ever needed something fixed he couldn’t handle, Jon could do it. He was proud of his grandkids too and loved watching any event they were involved in or talking to them about what was going on in their lives. They were fortunate to have him so close these last few years so he could attend as many events as possible or playing games with them…simply sharing in their lives. In AJ’s last months, he made a point to say how happy it would have made Ma to see the kids changes in the last year.
AJ was an organ donor, and his eyes were a candidate for research. The splurge on Lasik surgery paid off!
Service for AJ will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 at 3:30 pm at the Marlin Ingebretson farmstead, 15071 7Th St NE, Mayville ND 58257 with celebration immediately following.
