Arlo Romaine Nelson, age 93, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at his home the evening of Tuesday, June 14, 2022. He lived life fully and richly.
Arlo was born to James Clarence and Viola Agnes Thompson Nelson on October 18, 1928, at Alta, Teton County, Wyoming where he spent his formative years on the family ranch. He was a 1947 graduate of Teton High School at Driggs, Teton County, Idaho. Arlo attended Utah State University, graduating in 1951. He later received a master's degree from Brigham Young University. Arlo served with honor as an officer in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict, including an overseas assignment in Tripoli, Libya, North Africa.
Arlo later served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the New England States Mission and the Maritime Provinces of Canada. Arlo married his eternal companion, Karen Webb, on June 12, 1959. Arlo served as Mission President in the Russia Samara Mission with Karen, and they served again as missionaries in New England at the Joseph Smith Birthplace at Sharon, Vermont, and the Deseret Ranch in Florida. Arlo also served as an ordinance worker at the Bountiful Temple.
Arlo is survived by his wife, Karen; and their children, Christian (son) and Kelli Nelson, Justin (son) and Jaime Nelson, Eric (son) and Gina Nelson, Britta (daughter) Nelson, David (son) and Mindy Nelson; twenty-one grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Arlo was preceded in death by his son, Jared Nelson.
For those wishing to attend, a viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24, 2022, at the Lindquist Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Road, Layton, Utah. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday June 25, 2022 at the Lakeview Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah. ORDER VIDEOS
