Armilda “Millie” Kern, age 81, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, formerly of Amanda, Ohio, passed away November 13, 2025. Millie, as her family and friends called her, was born on August 24, 1944, to the late Walden and Dorothy (Smith) Sherman in Ashville, Ohio. Millie was the youngest of fourteen children. A graduate of Walnut High School, Millie worked as a waitress and a pharmacy technician. She enjoyed puzzle books and sitting in the sun, but she found the greatest joy being surrounded by her family.
Besides her parents, Millie is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Charles “Chuck” Kern; grandsons, Joshua and Jeremy Lewis; brothers, Charles, George “Dink”, Roy, Gene, Lee and Bill Sherman; sisters, Beulah Jones, Lillian Sherman, Barbara Neff, Maxine Althaus and Martha Martin.
Millie is survived by her children, Rodney Harber, Troy (Tammy) Harber, Jolene (Dave) Marcum and Dannette (Richard) Bartges; eighteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Sylvia Crookham and Beverly (Roger) Caplinger; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 18 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Oliver-Cheek Funeral Home, 420 W. Main St, Ashville, Ohio, immediately followed by a funeral service at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Rob Dauber offering words of comfort. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hedges Chapel CCCU, 15495 Winchester Rd, Ashville, Ohio, 43103.
