Dr. Arnoldo R. Villarreal

Dr. Arnoldo R. Villarreal, a devoted ophthalmologist who dedicated 47 years to caring for his patients' vision and wellbeing, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, at the age of 84.

Dr. Villarreal's legacy of service extended far beyond his private practice. For seven years, he volunteered as an ophthalmologist with Mission of Mercy, providing essential eye care to the underserved residents of Nueces County. His humanitarian spirit led him to complete nine Catholic medical missions to Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, bringing the gift of sight to those with limited access to medical care. A Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Public Health Service, he exemplified dedication to public health throughout his career.

An accomplished educator, Dr. Villarreal shared his expertise as a professor of optometry at the University of Houston, while also training nursing students at Del Mar College and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, as well as educating military personnel, shaping the next generation of healthcare providers.

Above all, Dr. Villarreal cherished his family. He delighted in sharing his passions with his children and grandchildren-whether cheering on his favorite football team, discussing the finer points of classic cars, casting a line while fishing, or heading out on hunting trips. These moments created treasured memories that his loved ones will carry forever.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lillian, whom he married on August 29, 1964; his sons Steve, Edward, and Marc; his daughter Roxanna; 14 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever treasure his memory, wisdom, and love.

Services:

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 6th at Seaside Memorial, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 PM.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 7th at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church.
