Arthur "Art" William Amell, 86, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2025, in Jacksonville, FL.
Born in Manhattan, NY, on September 10, 1938, he was the beloved son of Emil Amell and Eileen Kyne Amell.
A devoted family man, Art moved his family from Brooklyn, NY, to Cutler Ridge (Miami), FL, in 1962 to pursue a career in typography and printing. This opportunity allowed him to provide a better quality of life for his growing family. Despite his professional commitments, he always made time for his greatest passion, coaching and mentoring young athletes. For several years, he coached his children in the Perrine Khoury Baseball League and the Palmetto Optimist Football League. His dedication to youth sports extended beyond coaching, and in the mid-1970s, he became Commissioner of the Perrine Khoury League. His innovative leadership and impact on the community earned him induction into the league's Hall of Fame.
After retiring and moving to North Florida in 2000, Art remained active in his faith as a member of San Juan del Rio Catholic Church. He embraced his retirement years, enjoying boating on the St. Johns River with his children and grandchildren and golfing with family and friends.
Art was predeceased by his parents, Emil and Eileen Amell; his siblings, John Patrick Amell, Julie Governale, and Robert Amell; and his beloved grandson, Kevin Amell.
He is survived by his sister, Cynthia Pendell; his children, John (Czarina) Amell, Brian (Mary) Amell, Christopher Amell, and Kathleen Amell Travis; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held on February 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Craig's Funeral Home, 1475 Old Dixie Hwy, St. Augustine, FL. Interment will follow immediately at San Lorenzo Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:15 a.m. until the time of service.
Art's legacy of love, leadership, and family devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
