Arthur Doten

Arthur Kent Doten, born April 30, 1961, in Fairfax, CA, lived most of his life in Watsonville, passed away peacefully the morning of August 22, 2025, having been surrounded by loved ones following a short illness.
Arthur (Art) started Complete Yard Service at an early age, where he continued as a self-employed landscaper, servicing many homes and businesses in the community up until the day he became ill, which was more than 45 years of servicing his customers. In addition to running a business, Art kept busy by volunteering his time coaching for over 40 years, including Little League baseball and PV Girls Softball & summer traveling team Tremblers. He also coached high school girls' softball at Aptos, Watsonville, PV, and St. Francis. Coach Art, known to be patient, fair, and disciplined with his team, built trust with his players, teaching them to trust and respect their teammates, which led him to earn recognition from SCCAL and CCS as Coach of the Year multiple times over his tenure. Art also dedicated endless hours to his physical fitness, having met many of his close friends at the gym and competed in power-lifting competitions. Art enjoyed spending time with his family, was a devoted 49er and Giants fan, and enjoyed going for a ride on his Harley.
Art leaves behind his life partner of 33 years, Gina Ruiz, and step-children, Sean and Bryanna Villareal, grandchildren Benjamin Villareal and Theo Rodriguez; his sisters Janet Doten, Linda Andrada, and Nancy Trevino; his five nieces Melissa Martinez, Hillary Duran, Martha Andrada, Carmen Trevino and Stephanie Trevino, and their children; "softball daughter," Monique Martinez, along with extended family and close friends. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Martha Doten.
A viewing will be held at Mehl's Colonial Chapel on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, from 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm, with a remembrance of Art's life starting at 6:30. Burial service will be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 11:00 am at Valley Public Cemetery, followed by a picnic at Pinto Lake County Park.
