Arthur “Lewis” Farris, age 88, of Bessemer City born on June 6, 1936, to the late Josey and Eloena Eskew Farris. He went on his final trip Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at CaroMont Regional Medical Center. Lewis Loved to travel in any form, many trips out west riding motorcycles with his wife Peggy. Traveled to Australia and Mexico. Many trips to the beach, where he and Peggy went to the Bowery and met the Alabama Band. They would also go clogging on that red, white, and blue bus with AB & Sarah Flowers and Bud & Mert Goines. Lewis attended First Baptist and Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. “Give a man a plot of land and you give him a future.” Lewis devoted himself to working hard on the farm, always striving to provide for his family. Caring for the cattle brought him immense joy. He was not just a dedicated farmer, but also a loving husband, father, brother, and friend to many, always ready to lend a helping hand. His bond with his cherished cat, Booger, added a special warmth to his life, reflecting the deep love he had for those around him.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 70 plus years Peggy Ann Payne Farris, brother Joe Lee Farris (Nellie) and sister Ruby Farris Sellers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son Dick Farris (Jenny Carrington); daughter Susanne Farris Pearson (Gary); friends Nancy England, Kermit Hutchins, Sharon Gentry, and the late Bonnie & Dennis Bridges, along with others that are too many to list; and many nieces and nephews that loved him dearly.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025, from 2:00 pm – 2:45 pm at Long Creek Presbyterian Church in Bessemer City. The funeral service to celebrate Lewis’ life will follow at 3:00 pm with Pastor Will Upchurch officiating. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Baptist Church.
