Arthur Buchanon Regenold III, age 75, of
McDonough, Georgia passed away on January 18, 2025, at Brightmoor Hospice in Conyers, Georgia. He was born on August 7, 1949, in Waterville, Ohio, the son of the late Arthur B. Regenold Jr. and Virginia Louise (Weeber) Regenold.
Art was a remarkable man known for his intelligence, dedication, and passion for railroads who leaves behind a legacy of hard work and inspiration.
Born and raised in Waterville, Ohio, Art grew up with a deep appreciation for community and tradition. After graduating high school, he moved to Denver, Colorado, to pursue his undergraduate studies at the University of Denver. During his time in Denver, Art explored his love of sports and communication through broadcasting with the Denver Broncos, a memorable chapter in his early career.
Arts thirst for knowledge brought him to Bowling Green, Ohio, where he continued his education and deepened his lifelong passion for locomotives and railroads. Together with his father, he restored an old dining rail car, bringing new life to the historic Bluebird Express that connected Waterville to Grand Rapids. This shared project reflected his love for preserving history and fostering community connection.
Arts passion for railroads and his academic achievements led him to a distinguished career with Norfolk Southern Corporation. Over the years, he served in various capacities, primarily focused on training new engineers. He was not only skilled at his job but also deeply committed to the success of his colleagues. Art authored manuals and published texts to enhance education within the industry, even assisting with the organization of some classes to improve English writing and communication for railroad staff. His efforts to uplift and empower his coworkers earned him respect and admiration across the railroad community. Art retired in 2012, leaving behind a career marked by integrity, innovation, and care for others.
Early in his career, Art was sent to Roanoke, Virginia, where a chance meeting at the Roanoke Market Square changed his life forever. It was there that he met the love of his life, Margaret Katherine "Kathy" Eldridge, a Roanoke native and devoted school teacher. The two married in 1987 and soon after relocated to
McDonough, Georgia, where Arts career took them. They have spent over 37 wonderful years together, building a life filled with love and shared adventures.
Art and Kathy shared a love for travel and cherished their time near the water. One of Arts favorite places was Black Lake in Michigan, where he found peace sitting by a fire under the stars. Whether at their home or traveling, Arts love for life and nature was evident in everything he did.
Art was a devoted husband, a hardworking professional, and a true gentleman who touched the lives of many. His kindness, intellect, and unwavering dedication to those around him will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathy Regenold; a sister, Susan Conlon and husband Terry; nephew, Patrick Conlon and wife Kathryn; and a brother-in-law, John F. Wampler. Arts extended family of many more nieces, nephews, and others will also cherish his memory.
