Arthur Joseph Serrin

Arthur Joseph Serrin, age 94, passed away on April 19, 2024, in Carlsbad, California where he lived for 37 years.
Art was born on February 10, 1930, to Bessie Catherine (Nemic) Serrin and Charles Henry Serrin. He graduated from Maple Heights High School and pursued a higher education at The Ohio State University while also serving in the United States Navy Reserve (1948-1953.) He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Cal State Northridge and received his Master's Degree in Education and Counseling from Kent State University in Ohio.
Art married the love of his life, Lois Mae Beegan, on May 16, 1953 at St. Mary's Church in Bedford, Ohio. Their 70 years of marriage were filled with love and adventure.
Art launched his successful career as a Contract Management Negotiation Specialist in Aerospace and worked in the industry for almost 40 years.
He taught Business Law and Business Management night classes at Cuyahoga Community College and Cleveland State University in Ohio.
Retirement was busy and very productive for Art. He was the Dean of Counseling and Placement and founding faculty member of the Business Administration program for D-Q University on the Soboba Indian Reservation.
He also counseled high school youth, and was a high school and junior high school substitute teacher in Carlsbad.
In addition, Art was proud to represent the disabled, veteran and senior population of San Diego County with his work as an Advisory Council member for the AIS - Aging and Independent Services of California. As a result of his persistence and determination, two bills he wrote were passed in the California State Legislature benefitting the lives of many.
Art also was an active member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Patrick's Church in Carlsbad.
Art supported his family in all their pursuits and sought justice for them when necessary. Preceded in death by his precious daughter, Jodine Elizabeth Serrin, Art worked with the Carlsbad police for many years to finally bring Jodi's case to justice utilizing the latest familial DNA technology through Genetic Genealogy.
As Art bids farewell to this world, his spirit lives on in the hearts of his beloved wife, Lois, and his cherished family:
Children: Michael (Lydia) Serrin, Nancy (Thomas) Chrisopulos, Barbara (Ramon) Cervenka, Carole (Thomas) Cercek, Jodine (deceased) and Charles Serrin
Grandchildren: Tammy Serrin, Sally (Leo) Melena, Valerie (Eli) Menaker, Bryan (Erin) Petsche, Joseph Serrin, Jordan Petsche, Gregory Petsche, Amy (Michael) Kinney, Jonah Cercek, Addison Serrin and Janson Serrin
Great-grandchildren: Lunden Serrin, Leo James Melena II, Ryan Petsche, Ava Petsche, Cameron Menaker, Tori Serrin, Emily Menaker and Rosie Kinney
And to all who had the privilege of knowing him, services to honor Art's remarkable life will be held at the Parish Chapel at San Luis Rey Mission at noon on Friday, May 3, 2024. followed by graveside service at 1:00 p.m. with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to NAMI (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill), an organization close to Art's heart. In doing so we honor not only Art's memory, but also his enduring commitment to his beloved daughter, Jodine Elizabeth.
