Arthur Turner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Resthaven Funeral Home - Aransas Pass on Jan. 21, 2026.
Arthur Donald Turner, 89, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at home surrounded by family. He was born January 11, 1937, in Odell, Texas. A celebration of life will be at a later date in Odell.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Joyce Lee Smith Turner; loving daughter, Donetta Turner; and loving son, Donnie Turner; sister-in-law Vinell (Clifford) Fritsche Turner; niece, Elizabeth Turner; great-nephew Beau Harris; and cousin-in-law Sandy (Glen Dacel) Turner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Authur Lee and Rosa Reeves Turner; three brothers, Clifford Turner, Ronnie Turner and Roger Turner; and one sister, Loretta Faye Turner; nephew Ted Turner; and cousin, Glen Dacel Turner.

He graduated from Odell High School in 1955, and received a mathematics scholarship. He excelled in sports winning district and state titles, playing football, basketball and track and field. After dating for two years, he married Joyce Lee Smith on May 29, 1959, and they devoted 68 years together. He served more than two years in the U.S Army at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after being called up for Cold War readiness and was honorably discharged after the Cuban Missile Crisis was resolved. He moved his family to Ingleside in 1971. He worked at the Sherwin Reynolds Aluminum plant for 31 years as a millwright before retirement. He had a strong work ethic, which he passed on to his children. He supported his children in their athletic endeavors. He started the Little Dribblers Association in Van Horn, served as president of the Little League Association in Ingleside and coached championship Little League and softball teams. He served as president of the Football Booster Club as well as serving as president of the Band Boosters Association. He was supportive of Cub Scouts and served as Webelos leader. He was active in the community where he was respected and loved by those who knew him. He was a member of the Church of Christ and served as deacon for the Ingleside congregation. He was a mentor to many children. He enjoyed saltwater fishing but always missed fishing and swimming in the Red River, which divided the family's land from Oklahoma to Odell. He will always be missed.

All services will be private.

Sorry for the family loss. The Turner family were great. Good friends and raised running and halling hay with Ronnie and Roger. Starr Roger's Tallant was in his class. Praying for all .
