Arturo Sanchez, Jr.

Age 78, of Alma, passed away peacefully at his home on February 26, 2026, surrounded by family.

Arturo was born April 4, 1947, in San Antonio, TX, the son of Arturo and Mary (Rodriguez) Sanchez. He married his love and best friend Lizabeth (Castillo) Sanchez on November 18, 1967.

Arturo served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971. He was stationed at the U-Tapao Royal Thai Air Force Base during the Vietnam War. He served as a military security K9 handler where he "walked the wire" with his sentry dog "Tiki," guarding B52 bombers, SR-71 Reconnaissance Aircraft and protecting the flight lines. Arturo was a member of the Fred E. Richards VFW Post #3055. His true passion came from music. He loved performing with his band "The Country Drifters." He made many good friends over his more than twenty years playing. He enjoyed "good old country music," as he called it, and was proud of his vast collection of songs.

Arturo is survived by his wife, Lizabeth, son, Arthur (Tracy) Sanchez and daughter, Mekeila (Jose Gomez) Sanchez; grandchildren, Nicholas, Isabella, Arturo, Aubrieana, Jesslyn and Ramona; sisters Linda (James) Castillo, Amelia (Esteban) Castillo, Brenda (Greg) Huyck, and brother Frank (Janelle) Sanchez, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arturo and Mary, son, Jesse Sanchez, and sister, Mary Lou Armola.

A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 11 am at the Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 am until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Oakgrove Cemetery, St. Louis at a later date.
