Ashok Sharma Obituary

In 1978, Dr. Sharma moved to the United States, where he built a remarkable career as a cardiologist. Since 1985, Dr. Sharma served on the staff at Valley Hospital, where he played a pivotal role in advancing cardiac care through groundbreaking procedures such as cardiac stenting and catheter interventions. His contributions to the medical field have left an enduring impact on the lives of countless patients.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ashok was a loving man, generously dedicating time and support to his family and friends. His commitment extended beyond his immediate household, as he anchored a close knit extended family with selfless support.
As a philanthropist, Dr. Sharma extended his generosity to charitable causes, embodying the spirit of giving. His contributions went beyond the walls of his home and office, leaving a positive impact on the wider community. He was a founding member of the Hindu Samaj Temple, exemplifying his dedication to both his cultural roots and community.
An avid golfer, Ashok found joy on the golf course, bonding with his friends over the sport they loved. He also cherished moments spent playing cards, creating lasting memories with his brothers.
Dr. Ashok Sharma is survived by his wife, Dr. Indu Sharma, his daughter, Pooja, son-in-law, Mayank and his granddaughters. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, November 25th, 2023, at Vander Plaat Funeral Home of Wyckoff from 10 AM to 12 PM.

I am heart broken finding out about Dr. Sharma's passing this AM while trying to make an appointment. Such a wonderful kindred spirit and wonderful gentlemen and doctor. I will miss him and hope his family and staff can get through this tragedy. God Bless You Dr. Sharma!

Ashok was a dear sweet person!
I have many fond memories of playing golf with him or sharing a glass or two of Tequila:)
I was glad I turned him on to tequila, because he told it always made him happy!!
He will be always be with me in my heart and soul.
He is a loss to everyone who knew him!
He truly loved life and his family!
I will miss him as we all will!

My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Sharma for years. Not only did we admire his medical talents but we considered him a friend that we knew we could always count on. His "bed-side" manner was always comforting and professional. I remember my first stress test.....he asked if I could handle more speed on the treadmill....and I told him "yes". He explained that we was going to ramp my speed up to "marine recruit level"......I handled it.......for all of 30 seconds. He always took personal interest in me and was always asked how my family was doing. I'm going to miss our conversations about golf. Even though I'm not a golfer I appreciated his enthusiasm for the sport! Not an office visit went by without him telling me about his next club tournament. My husband and I have been patients of Dr Sharma for many years and are deeply saddened to learn of his passing. We extent our deepest sympathies to his wife (of which my husband has also been a patient) and to all of his family. He was an amazingly gentle and kind soul and will be sorely missed.

Ashok was a friend of ours "once removed." Always so generous with his time. He helped me through my cardiac difficulties giving me great advice to go under the care of Dr. V. Sethi and again a few years later when he advised the family after my wife Eileen´s ruptured brain aneurysm to get her to Columbia Presbyterian (and made all the arrangements on a Xmas eve!) to go under the care of Dr. E. Sander Connelly. My wife and I owe our lives to Ashok. Thank you, Sir.

I worked in Dr. Ashok Sharma's office for many years for his wife Dr. Indu Sharma. He was always pleasant to talk with, quick to smile and laugh. He adored his family, loved and was proud of his wife, his daughter Pooja and his precious little granddaughters. He had a large family and loved them all deeply. Family was so important to him. I will miss seeing his smiling face and I wish him to be at peace.
