Audrey S. Morell, 94, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Audrey was born on March 24, 1931, in Newburgh, New York, to the late Raymond Schrang and Gladys Smith Schrang. She graduated from Hartwick College in Oneonta, New York with a BA degree in history and University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with a MA degree in American history.
During her career as a teacher, Audrey taught secondary English and Social Studies on Long Island and in Newburgh, New York and European Culture and American Studies at Washingtonville High School in Washingtonville, New York and there served as faculty advisor for the Youth in Government program.
Audrey was actively involved in her community over the years, serving as President for The League of Women Voters of Cornwall, Director of the YWCA of Newburgh, a member of the Advisory Council for the Cornwall on Hudson Elementary School and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. After retiring to Sarasota, Florida, she dedicated her time as a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem in Sarasota, Florida, advocating for the best interests of children in the community. She also volunteered at a local library as well as participated in a women's book club.
Audrey loved to read and was often found with her nose in a book. She loved attending the performing arts, dining at Disney's food and wine pairing events, traveling, dancing, swimming and spending time at the beach. She enjoyed cooking and baking and loved trying new recipes from her extensive collection of recipes and cookbooks. She also had a passion for professional ice hockey where she was an avid fan of the New York Islanders. In addition, she enjoyed professional tennis and soccer, always cheering enthusiastically for her favorite teams.
Audrey was predeceased by her loving husband of 70 years, William F. Morell III. She is survived by her two daughters: Tracy Rickle (Vincent) of
Wake Forest, NC and Leslie Flores of St Cloud, FL; a sister, Joan Liguori of Winter Park, FL; three grandchildren: Brandon Mumford, Shelby Gully and Bryan Rickle (Taylor) and three great-grandchildren.
She will lovingly be remembered for her love and devotion to her family.
