August Servantes

August "Hotshot" Servantes, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and decorated U.S. Army veteran, passed away surrounded by family. Born in Columbus, Texas, August lived a full and vibrant life across the communities he cherished-spending 25 years in Houston, 17 years in Eagle Lake, and the last 12 years in Richmond, Texas.

On August 9, 1969, he married the love of his life, Mary Helen Duarte, in Eagle Lake. Their marriage was a lifelong partnership filled with devotion, friendship, and family.

August enlisted in the U.S. Army and proudly served his country in Vietnam from January 1968 to December 1969. He served with distinction as part of the Big Red One and Hell on Wheels divisions. A Purple Heart recipient, he was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant. His service remained a defining part of his life, reflected in his longtime membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), where he was a life member, and his deep involvement as a Fourth Degree "Sir Knight" in the Knights of Columbus.

Those who knew August will remember him as a man who truly never met a stranger. He could walk into any room and find someone he knew-or make a new friend within minutes. His loyalty was unwavering, his friendship limitless, and his presence impossible to forget.

August enjoyed softball, billiards, grilling outdoors, and hosting gatherings where the crowd was always "the bigger, the better." He was a dedicated Houston Astros fan and took great joy in attending VFW and Knights of Columbus meetings, parades, and community events.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Helen Servantes; his children, Mark Anthony Servantes and Rosanne Servantes Rasmussen; and his son-in-law, Douglas Rasmussen. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Sean Servantes, Christian Servantes, Micah Andrew Servantes, and Jonah Austin Burks; his great-grandchildren: Anastasia Servantes, Ceclia Rose Servantes, River Elise Servantes, August Jacob Servantes, and Nolan Ryan Elkins; and his siblings: Trini Torres, Leroy Servantes, and Henry Servantes. He is also lovingly remembered by a large and cherished extended family of nieces and nephews.

August is preceded in death by his parents, Refugio and Juanita Servantes; his siblings Victoria Perez, Lupe Garcia, and Nicholas Servantes; and his daughter, Mary Christine Servantes.

Pallbearers, all members of the Knights of Columbus, include Michael Duarte, Randall Duarte, Terrence Simonds, Matthew Hernandez, Victor Espinosa, and James Salinas.

August "Hotshot" Servantes will be remembered for his service, his kindness, his humor, and his boundless love for others. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
