Azucena H. Ortegon

November 10, 1932 – March 29, 2025

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Azucena H. Ortegon, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who departed this life on March 29, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on November 10, 1932, Azucena graced the world with her vibrant spirit and unwavering love for her family and friends.

Azucena was a remarkable woman who cherished the bonds of family. She was a dedicated matriarch, inviting loved ones to celebrate each birthday at home, where laughter and warmth filled the air. Her passion for connection extended beyond her family, as she made friends wherever she went and traveled with them as well, creating memories that will resonate through the hearts of many.

A woman of diverse talents, Azucena enjoyed playing the maquinitas and was an avid card player. Her love for swimming often led her to Ojo de Agua in Sabinas Hidalgo, Mexico, a place where she found joy and tranquility. In her youth, she showcased her athleticism as a basketball player and captivated those around her with elegance as a model. A true fashionista at heart, Azucena’s unique style and flair were complemented by her culinary prowess – most notably for her renowned homemade flour tortillas, which was a testament to her love of family gatherings.

A connoisseur of simple pleasures, Azucena savored moments spent with a cup of coffee and pan de dulce, finding delight in the everyday joys of life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and friendship.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leodegario and Nepomucena Hinojosa; her husband, Valentin Ortegon; sons, Valentin Ortegon Jr., Dino Dante Ortegon; daughter, Azucena V. Hinojosa; siblings, Olga Guadiana, Yolanda Perez, Armida Garza, Amparo Gonzalez, Esther Nelly Perales, Beatriz Hinojosa-Perez, Leodegario Hinojosa-Perez, Hector Rene Hinojosa-Perez, and Maria Del Rosario Hinojosa-Perez.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Genevieve O. (Gilbert) Rodriguez, Aldo Marc Ortegon, Alan Eric Ortegon, Vanette L. Ortegon, Vanessa L. (Ernesto A. Gonzalez) Ortegon; grandchildren, Valentin (Elizabeth) Ortegon III, Vladimar (Lilly) Ortegon, Aldercy Ortegon, Gilberto Rodriguez III, Alan Rodriguez, Dante (Adriana) Rodriguez, Azucena Haynes, Dario Hinojosa Jr., Jason (Amber Avis) Hinojosa, Katherine (Jaime) Villela, Rebeka Ortegon, Vanette G.
