Barbara Jean Abernathy, 70, of Lubbock, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 13, 2025. She was born on November 21, 1954, in Kirkland, Washington to the late Jessie James and Betty June (Deal) Stringer. Barbara worked as a dog groomer for many years at different places and even owned her own for a little stint of time. She trained a lot of people with her techniques; she loved animals sometimes more than people. Barbara always took in the strays. She never met a stranger, Barbara would always lend a helping hand when she could. She loved to go to the lake where you could always find her on the front porch soaking up the environment. Barbara loved her family, but especially her grandchildren. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Richard T. Wolfe and wife, Tanya, Jessica Straughan, and Michael Swafford; brother, Billy Joe Stringer; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie James Stringer and Betty June Bailey; brother, Eddy Stringer; sister, Beverly McAnally.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at House of Angels Funeral Home. Cremation services are under the direction of House of Angels Funeral Home.
