Barbara J. Bailey (BJ), 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Millsboro, DE on September 6, 2025. BJ born November 13, 1944, in Wardtown, VA, was a woman of hilarious wit, supportive spirit, and boundless love. Her life was a testament to the strength of her character and a beacon of light for all who had the privilege to know her.
BJ was an individual whose vibrancy and spirit were as infectious as her laugh. She was a loving mother, and grandmother, and a cherished sister. BJ brought joy and laughter to every room she entered, earning her the reputation of being the life of the party. She was a devoted member of St. John Church in Millsboro, DE, serving on the usher board, and attending Bible study something she truly cherished. BJ loved crocheting and needlepointing, reading her Bible, attending Sunday school, attending the Cheer Center, collecting cookbooks, and enjoying her morning coffee-simple pleasures that reflected who she was.
Professionally, Barbara dedicated her time to the community, working at Stockley Center in Georgetown, De, various home health jobs where she was a live in aide, and retiring from King Cole in Milton, De. She loved her family deeply and always made everyone feel seen, cared for, and loved. Her presence, her smile, and her laughter will be forever remembered by all who had the joy of knowing her. Barbara had a natural gift for making those around her feel seen and loved-she was truly the life of any gathering, injecting laughter, warmth, and light wherever she went.
Barbara is survived by her loving daughter, Vanessa Whaley, her grandchildren, Quinterra Whaley-Power (Dekonti), Martisha Whaley, Jeronti Whaley, Dakivis Whaley, her siblings Regina Anderson Chisum, Barbara Ann Poole, Joesph Poole, Daisy Poole, and multitude of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many friends. She was preceded in death by her father Walter Savage and mother Stella Bailey.
Barbara's life will be celebrated on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at St. John Second Baptist Church, starting with a public viewing at 10:00 am EDT, followed by a celebration of life service at 12:00 pm EDT, and interment at 2:00 pm EDT at St John 2nd Baptist Church Cemetery.
We encourage friends and family to share their memories and photos of Barbara on her memorial page, as a testament to her vibrant life and the joy she brought to all those around her. Barbara's spirit, her laughter, her love-these are the things we will carry in our hearts forever. Her legacy of love and community will continue to inspire and guide us.
