Barbara J. "Joanie" (Dominick) Barrett, 90, of Bear, Delaware peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of family on Saturday, July 29, 2023. Born in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania on August 26, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine (Roman) Dominick.
Barbara was a longtime resident of Hartford, Connecticut, where she first worked for Pratt & Whitney, a Division of United Aircraft, and then for the State of Connecticut Office of Social Security & Disability, from where she retired in 1997 after more than 20 years of dedicated service. Currently, she was a member of St. Margaret of Scotland Parish.
Barbara enjoyed crocheting, quilting, time at the beach, boating with family and a good cup of coffee. She also enjoyed her membership at the Saint Augustine Senior Center in Hartford Connecticut and M.O.T. Senior Center in Delaware. Her greatest joy was being in the company of her beloved family and friends.
Barbara will be dearly missed by her daughter, Paula Pennisi and her husband Frank; her son Shawn Barrett and his wife Diane; her grandchildren, Kimber Barrett, Aaron Merkel and LeAnn Besczezynski and her husband Jordin; 7 great grandchildren; many beloved cousins and friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Sunday, August 6 from 2:00 – 5:00PM. An additional period of visitation will be held at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 2431 Frazer Road, Newark on Monday, August 7 from 10:00 – 10:45AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 11:00AM. Entombment will follow in All Saints Cemetery.
