Barbara Ann Burkey

On Wednesday, May 15, 2024, Barbara Ann (Sauber) Burkey, passed away at age 81.
Barbara was born on March 4, 1943. She graduated high school from Mount Saint Mary High School in 1961. She met the love of her life while at Saint Mary's. She married Larry Burkey on October 27, 1961, and they had four children. Barbara dedicated her life to being a wife and mother. Her greatest joy was her family. Whether she was at a ball game, a school assembly, or a music event, she was her kids and grandkids biggest supporter.
Barbara was beautiful inside and out. After her kids were grown, Barbara volunteered for Meals on Wheels for Immaculate Conception Church. She delivered meals to Aids patients once a week, just one example of her immense kindness and compassion for others.
Barbara never let anyone leave her house hungry. It did not matter if it was one of her kids, grandkids, or the many friends of her kids and grandkids. She was always ready to fix a meal or snack. Many times, she would fix two or three different foods just to accommodate her grandchildren whom had vastly different tastes. Barbara was always willing to do anything for her grandchildren, who fondly refer to her as "Mimi".
Self-sacrificing and a person who always put others first was Barbara's greatest attribute. Barbara was the oldest sibling of six girls. She was like a second mom to her youngest sisters, always helping out when it was needed.
Barbara is preceded in death by her father and mother, Robert and Rita Sauber, sister Patty Johnson, husband Larry Burkey, sons Joe Burkey and Kirk Burkey. She is survived by daughter Anita Keith, husband Tommy, grandchildren Dawson Keith and Natalie Zaragoza, great grandson Kannon Keith, grandson Ty Keith, daughter Jaime Johnson, husband Donnie, grandchildren Cade and Kohen Sanford, sisters Jeanette Sauber, Debbie Mars, husband Ron Mars, Deanna McClung, husband Rick McClung, Teresa Richmond, husband Ron Richmond, brother in law Ed Johnson, and many nieces and nephews.
