Benjamin (Ben) Charles Averyt went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 10, 2025, at the age of 26. For five months, Ben fought a courageous battle with colon cancer, and his strength inspired all of his family and friends who rallied around him on his journey. Even though his body was weak, Ben's faith and trust in God shone brightly in the darkest hours. His life on earth was short, but for generations to come, Ben's genuine love, kindness, and thoughtfulness for others will carry on through all the lives he touched.
Ben was born to Edward and Tonya Averyt on April 20, 1998, in Norman, Oklahoma. Ben attended All Saints Catholic School and Mount St. Mary Catholic High School. During his school years, Ben separated himself with a quick wit, a smile that would light up any room, and a contagious enthusiasm. These traits made him beloved and admired by his teachers and classmates.
Early in his life, Ben established small habits that turned into remarkable results. His work ethic was undeniable. You could always count on Ben to lend a helping hand while doing his very best and expect nothing less of himself. Ben was resourceful. He did not have to be told how to do the work. He would figure out what to do, how to do it, and get the job done. These traits became evident during his early days running a lawn mowing business, to helping his brother-in-law's father restore 550 acres of untamed pasture at the Mollman Family Farm near Byars, Oklahoma. Ben, who was still in high school, would run a John Deere 6120R tractor performing brush hogging and land maintenance. He was trusted to assist with controlled burns, purchasing erosion control supplies, installing those along with a watering system, to plowing and planting food plots. Even as the chores were mounting, Ben would take time to connect with others. He would head into the small community of Byars every morning to have coffee with a group of elderly gentlemen whom he befriended.
After graduation from Mount St. Mary in 2016, Ben attended and graduated from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, with a degree in Process Technology. He began his professional career at Oklahoma Natural Gas (ONG). In June of 2021, Ben landed his dream job as a process operator for Phillips 66 at the Ponca City refinery for the Coker division. Ben loved living in Ponca City and he affectionately referred to this part of Oklahoma as, "God's Country."
Ben's hobbies reflected his adventurous and joyful nature. He was passionate about cars, recently starting a Jeep project, and cherished his tools and his beloved Ford F-150. A talented hunter, he enjoyed hunting turkey and deer, a tradition lovingly supported by his great aunt and uncle, who gifted him a lifetime hunting license. Moreover, Ben was a loyal sports fan, cheering for Oklahoma Sooner football and St. Louis Cardinal baseball, and he never missed an opportunity to cook an elaborate meal or share a hearty dish with loved ones.
Ben's greatest gift was not always what he did but how he made others feel. He was an old soul who wanted to make life better and simpler for others. His greatest impact was his personal life testimony and how he led others to Christ. All who knew Ben are saddened by the loss of a great son, brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, and friend. His legacy will not be remembered for how he died, but it will be about how he lived. Ben Averyt lived a beautiful and fulfilled life, and he is now in the perfect presence of his Lord, Jesus Christ.
Ben is survived by his loving parents, Tonya and Edward Averyt; his sister, Emily Mollman, and her husband, Jacob; his grandparents, Joe and Sue Averyt; his nephew, Noah, and niece, Lucy; his aunts and uncles, Kim Enevoldsen (Gary), Pam McEnany (Mike), and Ron Simpson (Brandy); his great aunt, Naomi Spriggs, and great uncle, Bill Ashley; and his cousins, Jeffrey Enevoldsen, Jenna Wombwell, Sara Ward, John McEnany, Nathan Harris, and Jack Simpson.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Earl and Dorothy Czaplinski.
Ben's family and friends are establishing the Ben Averyt Memorial Endowment Fund to support Mount St. Mary Catholic High School graduates who are planning on attending a vocational trade school. Ben was my brother´s best friend in elementary school. When I was being that annoying little sister who wanted to hang out with my older brother´s cool friends, Ben was always the one to include me. He could make any room fill with laughter. Ben was so distinctly himself from such a young age.
To this day, my family quotes his "Get `er done!" about chores.
Thank you for such warm childhood memories.
Thank you for the light & joy you brought everyone you met.
Get some good rest Ben.

My first memory of Ben was within my first day or so in the fifth grade at All Saints. I was new and so was my sister, Sophie. We were in different classes and I was terrified! At recess, she told me she had made a new friend. She introduced me to Ben, and he was just as nice as she described him to be. I'll always remember him as being helpful, silly, funny, kind, warm-hearted and dedicated. I am so devastated to hear about his loss and will always remember him as a truly kind and sunny soul.

I was friends with Ben in high school, and the things I remember most about him are his enthusiasm, cheerfulness, and generosity. He was one of the first people I became friends with as a freshman, and that's a hard thing to do for someone so shy like me. I'm thankful for his friendship. One time in particular I remember seeing him helping an older lady carry heavy bags, and as they were walking up the stairs he was chatting with her and making her laugh. At the time it stood out to me because he offered to help when he didn't have to, and did it thinking that no one else saw. That image has stayed with me over the years, and comes back to me when I reflect on what it means to be a cheerful & humble servant. There are so many times I remember when he said something encouraging or supportive to me, and I wasn't even one of his closest friends. I'm blessed to have known him, and my heart breaks to think of the suffering he went through. By God's grace we'll meet again in the next life.

Ben was a favorite at All Saints. Sweetest personality and happiest person. He also talked a lot.

Ben was my very first friend that I made at All Saints in 5th grade - we were sat next to eachother in Mrs. O´s class, and I remember being so nervous and shy. I took a seat next to Ben and he immediately smiled so big and introduced himself. From that moment on, I wasn´t nervous anymore. Ben always had a joyful, fun, optimistic attitude - going all the way back to my first memories of him at 11 years old.
