It is with great sadness that the family of Cheri Lynn (Patton) Newman announce that she went to her heavenly home on November 2, 2025. Cheri battled a severe illness and passed peacefully surrounded by her husband and children.
Cheri was born on October 11, 1955, in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Robert Lawrence Patton. Cheri cherished her relationships with her Grandmother Ruth Ann (Edgar) Patton, Aunt Merry Alice (Patton) Smith, and Stepmother Patsy Ruth Patton who all had significant roles in raising and nurturing her during her childhood and adult years.
Cheri graduated from Mount St. Mary High School Class of 1973. Cheri began working at OG&E in 1974 when she retired after 41 years of service as a Senior Technical Trainer. Her professional journey was a testament to her work ethic and commitment to excellence. During her tenure she also developed many lifelong friendships.
Cheri was married to Rusty Newman for 21 years, and they loved spending time with family and friends. They loved to cheer for OU and attend the Thunder games, spend time in the pool, plant their summer flowerpots and garden, travel, listen to live music, enjoy peaceful days fishing and embracing every opportunity for laughter and connection.
Together with Gerald Davidson, she had two beloved children, Shannon and Matthew, whom she raised with boundless love, wisdom, and encouragement. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest blessing. She treasured time attending her grandchildren's dance recitals, football and basketball games, school programs, plays and musicals, baking pies and having slumber parties just to name a few cherished memories.
Aside from her family, one of her greatest gifts was her ability to nurture and maintain deep, meaningful friendships. Many of these bonds spanned over fifty plus years, a true testament to her loyalty, kindness, and the joy she brought into the lives of others. Her friends were family in every sense. She loved going on girl's trips, traveling with other couples, and going on lake trips with family and friends and attending the War Eagle craft show during her younger years. She touched the hearts of all who knew her, leaving behind a legacy of love, generosity, and kindness.
Cheri is survived by her loving husband Dwight ("Rusty") Newman of
Oklahoma City, OK; daughter Shannon (Davidson) Gottschalk and husband Matt of Edmond OK, and son Matthew Davidson of
Oklahoma City, OK; and her beloved grandchildren Coleton Davidson, Madison Gottschalk, Caden Davidson, and Everli Gottschalk.
Cheri is also survived by siblings Robert ("Lyndon") Patton, Janna Hall, Donal Ford, Steven Wirth, and Lonal Ford. Her nieces and nephews always felt so loved by their Aunt Cheri. She is also survived by sister-in-law Debbie Craig, stepdaughter Jessie Bickerton and children Lydia and Max. She has a host of cousins and lifelong friends. Her spirit lives on in her family, friends, and the countless memories she created. Thanks be to God that we will be reunited again one day.
