John Phillip Sousa, Sr., age 70, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2025, at home surrounded by family after a short illness. He is survived by two sisters and one brother; and preceded in death by his parents.
He attended Mt. St. Mary Catholic High School in Oklahoma City, where he played football. Immediately after highschool, he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company where he spent the next 30 years before retiring in 2003.
He met the love of his life, Tina Avila Sousa, while coaching softball for Las Florecitas, and they have been inseparable since day one. They married in 1977 and have two children: John Sousa, Jr., and wife Stephanie; and son Tony, and wife Kassie. He was blessed with five grandchildren, Tanner, Blayden, Sophia, Ava, and Mila. He had numerous nieces and nephews, who will all miss their "Uncle John".
John was always the life of the party and a huge OU football fan. He enjoyed nothing more than tailgating and attending games with friends and family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He will lovingly be remembered for his zest for life, mischievous smile, and outgoing spirit.

I worked with John at Southwestern Bell until he retired. He was always the life of the party. He had many friends. Loved softball and football. Especially OU Sooners. He traveled to their games real often. He loved his wife Tina and his Sons John Jr and Tony. Also their families and his grandchildren. He was a special man with a big heart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. RIP John. Love thoughts and prayers for your family and friendsLinda Dighera
